The middle team of Oregon City’s three-year run as the USA Today national champion was the deepest and best. Not only did it have the nucleus of junior forward Brianne Meharrry (Oregon), junior point guard Ashley Smith (Vanderbilt) and sophomore forward Lindsey Yamasaki (Stanford), but it had outstanding senior leadership in Stephanie Osorio (Cal Poly) and Shelley Alderman (Warner Pacific). The Pioneers (26-0) won every game by at least 16 points, and their 51-29 win over Glencoe in the state final was their closest game against an Oregon team. They won four state tournament games by an average of 33.8 points.
