Swimming (Head Coach Bryan Watt, assistant coaches Olivia Watt, and Josh Morton)
The Pioneer swimmers open up their season last Thursday, December 6 when they hosted the Tualatin Timberwolves at the OC Community Pool. The boys dropped the meet 88-68 and the girls tied the Timberwolves 85-85.
Senior and ladies team co-captain Makenzie Chan-Orcutt placed 1st in the 100 Freestyle and 3rd in the 200 Freestyle, while her sister and co-captain Sidney captured 3rd in the 200 Individual Medley and 4th in the
100 Butterfly. Senior Annie Pullella pulled down a 2nd place finish in the 100 Backstroke and 4th in the 400 freestyle. Grace Gunderson, also a senior and team captain, placed 3rd in both the 400 freestyle and 100 Breaststroke. Sophomore Jane Shroufe crushed the competition and placed 1st in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke events while Sophomore Gracie Zarosinski placed 1st in the 100 Backstroke and 2nd in the 200 freestyle. Freshman Michelle Vu stood tall in her first ever high school dual meet garnering a 1st place finish in the 100 Butterfly and also grabbed a 2nd place finish in the 200 Individual Medley. Two of the three ladies’ relays won with ease and the guys won one out of three with impressive speed events.
On the boy’s side, Junior Ian Watt was unstoppable in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events as he sped to 1st place finishes in both, as his Freshman counterpart Conner James schooled senior competitors in both the 100 Butterfly and 200 freestyle events, winning handily. Sophomore Kellen Thygeson swam smartly in the 100 Backstroke placing 1st while placing 4th in the 200 Individual Medley.
The swimmers are at home again this Thursday, December 13 against West Linn. Start time is 3:30.

Boys & Girls Wrestling (Head Coach Bobby Bates, assistant coaches Tony Rolen, Jim Marshall, Jordan Brewer, Kyle Sether, Michael McCoy, Jared Groner, Natasha Umemoto, and Ryan LaDouceur)
he Pioneer Wrestling team took on David Douglas and Sandy in a double dual this past Wednesday. OC was victorious in both duals! All the young men and women battled hard. It was nice to get a win over DD!!!
The women's team wrestled in a tournament on Saturday at Westview High School. There were 200 women wrestlers! Our girls wrestled tough and showed off stuff they've been learning. Sydney Carter placed 2nd!
Pioneers host a frosh/novice tournament on today (Monday, December 10). Wrestling will start at 5:00 pm in the Auxiliary Gym.
A big-league dual at West Linn on Wednesday! Wrestling starts at 530 pm. Please travel across the river wearing your red and white as the Pioneers open their TRL season.
On Friday the Pioneers will host the 5 time running state champs Roseburg on Friday and North Marion in a double dual. Wrestling starts at 5:45 pm. Bring the noise!
The team will travel to the Liberty Invite on Saturday. There will be 28 teams competing along with a woman's tournament.
Girls Basketball (Head Coach Tiffani Traver, assistant coaches Jess Anderson, Chelsi Brewer, and Jade Lowery
Varsity- The Lady Pioneers traveled to number 11 Beaverton last Friday and battling a tough shooting and were defeated 61-26. Emily Fortin led the team with 5 points and 2 assists. Tyra Bradford has 2 steals.
The team travels to Las Vegas this week and plays Friday (Desert Pines HS at 6:30 pm) and Saturday (Legacy HS at 12:30 pm).
JV- The JV Lady Pioneers took on defending 2A State Champion Kennedy High School last Monday evening and were defeated 49-36. Kaydyn Guelsdorf led the scoring with 13 points,
On Friday at Beaverton the JV girls cruised to a 50-19 win. Annie Buckley scored 11 in the win and Hannah Parulski added 8.
The JV Lady Pioneers will travel to Camas High School on Wednesday, December 12 for a 5:30 game. The team also travels to Las Vegas this week and plays Friday (Desert Pines HS at 5:00 pm) and Saturday (Legacy HS at 11:00 am).
JVII- The JVII Pioneers ran their record to 2-0 last week with two season-opening wins. On Monday they hosted the Kenendy Trojans JV team and won. On Friday they traveled to Beaverton won 44-10 against Beavers. Grace Leasure led the point totals with 14. Brooklyn Johnson had 8 and Payton Ashley had 8. The defense was fast and unbreakable holding Beaverton to 0 points in the first quarter.
The JVII Lady Pioneers will travel to Camas High School on Wednesday, December 12 for a 5:30 game.
Boys Basketball (Head Coach Aaron Newkirk, assistant coaches Brad Crosby, Eric Chirgwin, Kenrik Lynch, Jake Rondema, Ralph Austin, and Lyle Rinearson)
The Pioneers won both of their games last week. On Tuesday they traveled to Newberg to take on the Tigers and came home with a 58-51 win. Jake Gettel led the way with 16 points. Andre Best added 12 points. Corban Remsburg had 5 rebounds. Erich Nova 8 rebounds and Blaze Bergen 5 rebounds.
On Friday in their home opener, the Pios defeated for MHC rival Clackamas 48-34. Their third straight win over the Cavaliers. Erich Nova led the way with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Corban Remsburg followed up with 11 points and added 7 rebounds.
The Pioneers are at home on Tuesday against the Roosevelt Roughriders. Tip-off is at 7:15. On Friday they travel to West Salem High School for a 7:15 game.
JV- The JV’s dropped their season opener at Newberg last week 45-38. Alex Newkirk 15 points led the scoring and TJ Warren added 10.
In their home opener against Clackamas the Pioneers opened up a close game in the 4th quarter for a 50-42 Alex Newkirk had 20 points. Gibson Payne led team in rebounds, and Jefferey Judd played great defense.
The Pioneers are at home on Tuesday against the Roosevelt Roughriders. Tip-off is at 5:45. On Wednesday they JV’s travel to Camas for a 4:00 pm game and then to West Salem on Friday for a 5:30 game.
