Currently the Pioneers are the number one ranked defensive team in the state and will start the second half of league play at Centennial on Tuesday and will host Reynolds on Friday.  Both games are at 7:30.

Boys Basketball-JV (Head JV Coach John Oreskovich, assisted by Ralph Austin)

The JV Pioneers went 1-1 last week.  On Wednesday they were beaten at home by David Douglas in a heartbreaking 52-50 loss to David Douglas.  Nate Erhardt scored a game high 13 points. On Friday they traveled to Gresham and came home with a 54-42 win.  TJ Warren led the scoring with 17 points.

They will travel on Tuesday to Centennial for a 4:30 game and host Reynolds on Friday for a 6:00 game.

Boys Basketball-Freshmen (Head Frosh Coach Luke Backus)

The Frosh Pioneers won both games last week to run their MHC record to 6-1.  On Wednesday at home they defeated the David Douglas Scots 59-55 and on Friday at Gresham they beat the Gophers 57-41.

Swimming-Boys and Girls (Head Coach Bryan Watt, assisted by Josh Morton and Tyler Nofzinger)

The Pioneers swimmers split last week with David Douglas.  The Lady Pioneers beat the Scots 117-53 while the boys were defeated 104-65.

Junior Sydney Chan-Orcutt (who is really making a mark this season) placed 1st in the 100 butterfly and 2nd in the 200 Individual Medley.  Junior Makenzie Chan-Orcutt (who continues to have an amazing season) placed 2nd in the 100 Butterfly and 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke.  Senior Samantha Brich had a great meet placing 1st in the 50 free (seeded 1st right now in the league) and 2nd to an OCHS swimmer in the 100 Freestyle.  Sophomore Ian continues to be a threat in the 50 Freestyle and although he placed 2nd because of a bad wall, his previous time is still the fastest in the league and looks good for the district competition.  Senior Quinn Thygeson raced for a best time in the 500 freestyle, placing 3rd, but giving the David Douglas boys a run for their money

The Pioneer swimmers will travel to Centennial Thursday, December 14.  Meet start time is 4:00.

Wrestling (Head Coach Bobby Bates, assisted by Tony Rolen, Ryan LaDouceur, Jim Marshall, Jared Groner, Michael McCoy, Jordan Brewer and Parker Foliard.

The Pioneers wrestled in the Kirk Spencer Memorial at West Linn on Friday.  The Pioneers defeated Barlow 39-30 but dropped their matches to Silverton 39-36 and to West Linn 46-24.  Freshmen Emma Baertlein qualified for the OSAA Women’s State Tournament by finishing fourth at the Woman’s State Qualifier in Eugene last Friday and Saturday.

Both Emma and the team are preparing for the upcoming Mt. Hood Conference Championship, which begins this Friday (at 3:00) and continues through Saturday (10:00) at Gresham.
