On Wednesday the girls traveled to Delta Park to take on the Central Catholic Rams. After a scoreless first half midfielders Chloe Leonetti, Keslie Keller and Amber Jewel controlled the pace of play for the Pios and set up the team for some great shots on goal. 15 minutes into the second half Abi Willett scored off a great unassisted goal cracking it over the keepers head. 6 minutes later Mya Pfenning scored on a great put back goal off a set piece ball played in by Amber Jewel.  Abi Willett added her second goal of the game with 6 minutes left to play from a great assist from Amber Jewell.

On Tuesday, October 3 the Lady Pioneers defeated the David Douglas Scots 8-2. Abi Willett led the way with 5 goals.  10 minutes into the game Chloe Leonetti assisted her, 3 minutes later Hannah Beebe assisted her and 10 minutes later Mya Pfenning assisted her.  Hailey Willett added a goal with an assist from Mya Pfenning. JVII- The JVII Lady Pioneers dropped a heart-breaking loss at Clackamas High School last Monday, October 2 losing 2-0 as Clackamas scored two late-second half goals to beat the Pioneers. Goalkeeper Caroline Benson amazed for several saves in the game keeping Clackamas from scoring until late.

At home last Wednesday against Central Catholic the team gave a complete effort.  The Pioneers dominated the game but Central Catholic scored in the final 5 minutes of the game for a 1-0 win. Overall, the entire team played very well.

Against David Douglas on October 3, Edson Jimenez-Sutton provided stellar defense in the teams first league shut out. David Douglas was pushing numbers forward late in the game and Edson’s defensive (and throughout the game) effort late helped keep the shut out. He also added as assist in this game. Hayden Gillespie scored the game winner in the first half with a well-placed shot to the side netting.

At home against Clackamas on October 5, Anthony Avellenada provided the spark needed to beat Clackamas at home 3-1. After going down 1-0, Anthony tied things up finishing a beautiful cross from Brandon Bautista with his head. Anthony also sent home the game winner off a corner kick in the second half when he ended up with the ball at his feet in the box firing home a low shot that the Clackamas keeper couldn’t handle. Alejandro Lopez sealed the game with a late goal giving the Pios a 3-1 lead with just a few minutes remaining.

Varsity-The Varsity team had a great week.  The Varsity team had a great week.  Their performance against Central Catholic (18-25, 19-25, 25-20, 10-25) was the best in years.  Although they lost, the team played some of their best volleyball.  The entire team worked together to push Central Catholic in each set and even took a set off them for the first time in almost a decade. Earlier in the week the team took care of business against David Douglas (3-0) keeping the energy relatively high and getting the win.

On Saturday, the team participated in the West Linn Tournament.  The tournament is one of the strongest tournaments of the year in Oregon.  After a sluggish morning the team went on to win the Bronze Bracket beating Roseburg, Wilsonville and Sherwood to get the trophy.  Highlights of note:  Only losing by 5 points both sets to the number 1 team in the state, Southridge.  Beating the team that knocked them out of the state playoffs last year, Roseburg.
