A busy week in week one as all but one program was competing. Starting Monday, September 17 I will do daily attendance checks on our student/athletes and one Monday, September 24 will do the first grade check.
Just a reminder that for home volleyball tournaments there is an admission charge for all levels (JVII, JV and Varsity). There is no admission charge for cross country, frosh and JV football, or boy’s and girls’ soccer on field 8 or boys and girls varsity soccer at the stadium.

Boys and Girls Cross Country (Head Coach Brandon Lee, assistant Coach Brent Eggers)

The Pioneers open Three Rivers League racing on Wednesday, September 12 vs Lake Oswego, Tigard and Canby at Canby.
Girls Soccer (Head Coach Marshall Brewer, assistant coaches Joey Leonetti, Casey Clegg, Chelsi Brewer, and Stephen Berry)
Varsity- The Lady Pioneers opened the 2018 season with a 2-0 win over the McNary Celtics last week. Abi Willet scored the first goal the season at the 38 second mark from a great ball from Maddie Miller. Taylor Salisbury scored at the 4-minute mark off a deflected ball. The Pioneers hosted the number one ranked girl’s soccer team in the nation last Thursday. The Jesuit Crusaders came into the game undefeated in 2018 and went on to a 9-0 win over the Lady Pioneers.
The Pioneers travel to Mountainside today for a 6:00 pm game and on Thursday will host the LaSalle Falcons in a 7:00 pm game.
JV- Last Tuesday the JV Lady Pios had a home 4-1 victory over McNary. Courtney Randall, Pauline Hoevener, and Kassie Priem all scored for the Pioneers. The girls put in a dominating performance. On Thursday was a loss to Jesuit, 8-0 and while the score was very one-sided, the girls played well and had several opportunities to score but could not convert them.
The JV team plays at Mountainside High School today (Monday, September 11) in a 5:00 pm game and at home on Thursday against LaSalle in a 4:00 om game on Field 8.
JVII- No games last week.
Boys Soccer (Head Coach Ian Feldt, assistant coaches Edgar Mora Mendoza, Dave Jordal, and Alvin Salazar)
Varsity- The varsity boys played two games last week. On Tuesday they traveled to Liberty and were defeated 3-1. Edson Jimenez-Sutton scored for the Pioneers. On Saturday they traveled to Lincoln and were beaten by the Cardinals 2-0. Excellent performances by Anthony Bautista, Jeffery Judd, Edson Jimenez-Sutton, Robbie Hamilton, and Carter Phelps.
The Pioneers will host the Grant Generals on Tuesday at 7:00 pm at Pioneer Memorial Stadium and will travel to Westview on Thursday for a 7:00 pm game against the Wildcats.
JV- Play at home on Tuesday against Grant at 4:00 pm on Field 8 and travel to Westview (game is at Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation Department) for a 5:00 pm.
JVII- No games reported last week.
Volleyball (Head Coach Head Erica Frafjord, assistant coaches Doug Keightley, Kathleen McCord, Sara Wilcox, Gabi Rush, and Meghan Frogner)
Varsity- The Varsity Volleyball team started league play with two very competitive matches. Against the St. Mary’s Blues, the Pioneers came out swinging. Strong performances from outside hitter Ali Brown and middle blocker, Madison Hornback led the offense. setter, Anessa Chirgwin, orchestrated a well-balanced attack as the Pioneers defeated the Blues in 5 set, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-7.
On Thursday, the Pioneers took on the Canby Cougars. Libero, Sarah Talley was the star defender for the Pioneers and picked up several digs during the 4 set match. Anessa Chirgwin had another impressive night running the offense while hitters, Madison Hornback, Ali Brown, Kailee Walker and Anna Gatitsky all scored multiple points. However, the effort was not enough and the Pioneers lost to Canby in 4 sets, 21-25, 25-16, 22-25, 24-26.
The Pioneers will host the West Linn Lions on Tuesday and travel to Lake Oswego on Thursday. Matches are set to begin at 6:30.
Junior Varsity-The JV girls opened their league play this week with games at St. Mary's Academy and at home versus Canby. On Tuesday, against St. Mary's the girls pulled out a victory in 3 sets over St. Mary's, (25-17, 23-25 and 15-12). Canby was in town on Thursday and the girls beat them in two straight sets (25-23 and 25-19). Mackenzie Norton had five aces and both Hailey Charriere and Rory Schedler delivered five kills apiece.
On Saturday, Oregon City hosted a JV tournament. Our girls went undefeated in pool play earning the 2nd seed in the afternoon bracket. They earned a hard-fought victory in the quarter finals over Estacada but lost to the eventual champions West Linn in the semifinals.
This week they will get another shot at West Linn as they host them on Tuesday and on Thursday we will travel to Lake Oswego. Both games begin at 5pm.
JVII Black-The JVII Black team went 2-0 last week to start their season. On Tuesday they defeated the St. Mary’s Blues and on Thursday beat the Canby Cougars at home. They traveled to Westview on Saturday for a tournament and finished in second place.
They will host West Linn on Tuesday and travel to Lake Oswego on Thursday. Matches start at 5:00 on both days.
JVII Red-The JVII Red team split their matches last week. On Wednesday they traveled to North Clackamas Christian and were beaten 15-25, 25-20, 17-19. At home on Thursday they defeated the Canby Cougars 25-15, 25-12.
They will travel to Lake Oswego this Thursday for a 6:30 match.
Football (Head Coach Dustin Janz, assistant coaches Bryan Swanson, Jason Daniels, Bob Taylor, Ed Miller, Cesar Martinez, Kelly Murphy, Dane Iverson, Dustin Brooks, Chris Creelman, )
Varsity-The OC Pioneers opened the 2018 home season with a tough 36-28 loss to the Tualatin Timberwolves. Zakhayas Dennis Lee scored three touchdowns (2 rushing and 1 receiving. Colby Iverson threw for 181 yards and 2 TD’s and Hunter Manassero and Kegan Kmetic lead the defense in their best outing of the season so far.
The Pioneers will travel to Lake Oswego to take on the Lakers this Friday, September 14. Kick off is at 7:00 pm.
JV-The JV broke open a 21-21 tie after three quarters to beat host Tualatin Timberwolves 28-21 to even their season record to 1-1
The JV’s will host the Lake Oswego Lakers in a 4:00 pm game.
Freshmen- No games reported.
The Frosh Pioneers will travel to West Salem this Wednesday, September 12 for a 6:00 pm game against the Titans.
